WebDec 14, 2024 · The old heads on the 13,14,15,16 toms are all hydraulics. The 10 and 12 have blue rock heads and sound great. I don't care much for the hydraulic sound on those bigger heads. So it looks like I will need to find some non-oil filled blue 2 ply heads to replace them. Interesting that hydraulic heads on the 6 and 8 toms sound just fine to me. More latin sounding than the 2 ply. Not bad sounding. Six of one, half a dozen of the other trade of between 1 and 2 ply.

There is no oil in the pinstripes, or ec2's by evans. The only head with actual oil inbetween the 2 plies is the hydraulic. The "oil" that everyone claims to see is just the rarefaction of light between the two layers of mylar, so it appears as if oil is in there.
